The SANTA ROSA JUNIOR HOCKEY CLUB is hosting it's . . .
...and the winner of the logo contest is:
CONGRATULATIONS WINNERS! Thanks to all who submitted such wonderful Artwork! 2006 Logo Contest. Watch for this logo throughout the tournament!
VOLUNTEERS: WE NEED YOUR HELP and WE'RE WILLING TO PAY YOU! In anticipation of record-setting ticket sales for the “Savor the Flavor” raffle, and an incredibly successful WCFO, the board is trying a new way of giving back to the volunteers who contribute to the success of the WCFO Tournament:
Sign up now , on the web, for the positions you want at the WCFO 06 VOLUNTEER SIGN-UP page. Be sure to mark these hours on your calendar -- you are responsible for this shift! When you arrive for your scheduled position, stop at the Information Table in the lobby of Snoopy's Home Ice and sign in. When your shift is finished, be sure to sign out at the same place. If you fail to sign in and out, you will not receive credit for your shift!
This year, 25% of the profits from the tournament will be allocated back to volunteers. All the hours worked for each family will be added up and then allocated over the 25% of profit. (For example, if the tournament profit is $16,000, then $4,000 will be returned to the volunteers. The tournament weekend generally takes 1,200 hours volunteer time. If your family works 15 hours, then your portion of volunteer time is .0125 of the total. Your credit would be determined by taking .0125 X $4,000 or in this example $50.00. $50.00 will be credited to your account.) Your family’s credit will be added to your club account for use during summer programs or towards next season's dues.
GO FLYERS! About the... T his is the Santa Rosa Flyers Junior Hockey Club's 10th year hosting the Wine Country Face-Off Tournament. It is always held over the President's Day weekend. Teams from Mite to Bantam levels come from all over California, and often from other states as well. We have a PeeWee team coming from Alaska this year! There are usually four teams for each level, for a total of sixteen teams. Each participating team plays four games. The games begin on Friday, (the kids love this -- they miss school and get to play hockey!). Over 1000 people enter the doors of Snoopy's Home Ice over the course of the tournament. It is the ultimate hockey weekend! The tournament is right around the corner now, and many have been working very hard for the last few months getting things organized and ready. Now it's your turn to help! As this is the 10th year of the WCFO, it is special this year, and we would like it to be a huge success! Donn Nisja has done a fabulous job at finding teams, and putting this whole event together. We owe you, Don! Sharon Sedillo is working day and night to to get the team baskets and raffle/silent auction items organized. WE STILL NEED DONATIONS for the Silent Auction, Chuck-a-puck contests, and baskets. Master Replicas, again, has generously donated more of those too cool Light Sabers, along with other awesome items, but other raffle/auction items are still greatly needed. Please check with your favorite restaurants, wineries, salons, spas, sporting goods stores... find items they might be willing to donate! We have a "Savor the Flavor" basket again this year, and have received the very generous donation of the house in France again. Last year this basket alone raised $7000! Team members will be receiving raffle tickets to sell, and of course, there will be prizes for the top sellers! See RAFFLE TICKET INFO for more information about selling raffle tickets. Being a Non-Profit Organization, everything donated is tax-deductible - including your personal donations. Click on the WCFO Donation Request Letter to give to your potential donors, and for the SRJHC Tax ID Number. Most importantly, the tournament cannot run without volunteers! This is the club's main fundraiser for the year. Last year we raised almost $15,000, which directly helps defray the cost of playing hockey in Santa Rosa. You can help keep the cost of playing hockey lower in Santa Rosa by volunteering to help. (Helping out at the tournament is not only quite fun, it is also a great place to meet new people and put faces to names you've seen on only on jerseys!) A Volunteer Sign-up Sheet will be made available soon. Volunteers will be needed in the following areas:
The Information Table:
This is the first place people go. Programs, tournament pins, and many
other items are sold here. The volunteer list is posted here. This is
where teams check in for games, and get the keys to locker rooms, as
well as come to for information about the Santa Rosa area.
The Silent Auction and Raffle Tables: Here you will find all Silent Auction and Raffle items, including team baskets. This is where raffle tickets for the various baskets can be purchased.
The Hospitality Room: This
is our best kept secret! In the mornings we offer coffee, breakfast
foods and drinks; in the evenings there are various foods and
beverages. Anyone attending the tournament is welcome upstairs to the
dance room for refreshments and to relax a little, and see the game from
up above. No kids allowed, however. Any donations for food and beverages
would be very appreciated. Contact Jim Branski (
jimbranski@sbcglobal.net) if you can
help in this area.
Off Ice Officials: Volunteers will be needed for scorekeeping, to work the clock, to announce games and to play music. Each game and team will need a Most Valuable Player Award judge. (Please don't choose to judge your own child 's team.)
Locker Room/Security: Volunteers are needed to secure keys to, and patrol/control locker rooms before and after games.
PLEASE GIVE FREELY OF YOUR TIME!
Did you know you could make money towards your dues with the tournament?
The WCFO Program guide is your key to the games. It is filled
with pictures of the participating teams, the schedule, ads and
often coupons from businesses in the Sonoma County area. You can even
print up your own 'ad' of encouragement for your favorite player.
Did you know, however, that if you solicit ads that make it into the
program, 50% of the cost of the ad is credited towards your
hockey dues? See WCFO Ad Rates
for rates and ad sizes. THE DUE DATE
FOR ADS TO BE SUBMITTED IN JANUARY 24th! Don't slip up and miss
this opportunity! Be sure to contact Donn Nisja (
nisja@sonic.net ) or Sharon Sedillo (sedillo1@pacbell.net
) with any questions.
