Please note: There are three types of scholarships available for members of the Santa Rosa Junior Hockey Club:
Please see the following for information regarding the specific scholarship funds: SANTA ROSA JUNIOR HOCKEY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Each year, the Board of Directors budgets a certain amount of money for the SRJHC scholarship program. This money is available for members of SRJHC Travel and House teams. Scholarships are not intended for Basics Members. SRJHC scholarships are not designed for long-term or continued financial support. Generally, these are one-time, partial scholarship awards intended for Members facing a temporary financial hardship; no full scholarships will be given. All awards will be applied directly to the Member’s SRJHC dues and are not redeemable for cash. All award decisions are the discretion of the SRJHC Scholarship Committee. Please see the following link for further information:
NORCAL SCHOLARSHIPS NORCAL scholarships are available for eligible travel team players, (not house or basics players). Generally, these are partial scholarships. Please see the NORCAL website for submission dates and instructions:
Murray E. Shortt Memorial Fund What is the Murray E. Shortt Memorial Fund? In 1993, the Murray E. Shortt Memorial Fund was established by Chuck
Killingsworth, of Catholic Charities, in honor and recognition of Murray's many
years of dedicated service to hockey and the youth of Sonoma County. The purpose
of the fund is to encourage youth participation in ice hockey by providing
financial assistance through scholarships to those who may not otherwise be able
to afford to play with our club. More than 50 organizations (mostly senior
hockey teams) and individuals have contributed to this fund. Since the inception
of this fund, over $5,000 in scholarships have been bestowed on club members. Who was Murray E. Shortt? Murray Shortt - "Mr. Hockey" - was a highly successful coach of youth hockey
for over 5 years in California and Michigan. Since the beginning of hockey in
Santa Rosa, Murray worked with youth hockey players as coach and President of
the SRJHC. In addition, he ran the Snoopy Hockey School with NHL instructors,
and for 18 years, he was the Tournament Marshall for the world famous Snoopy
Senior World Hockey Tournament. How Does the Scholarship Program Work? If you are in need of financial assistance, please mail a letter stating your
needs to SRJHC, c/o President, 1667 West Steele Lane, Santa Rosa, CA 95403. The
Murray E. Shortt Fund "Scholarship Committee" will meet to review your request.
Because the fund is modest in size, help is limited to partial payment of dues.
However, the club also offers many fundraisers and volunteer positions to help
defray the cost of dues. |
