The Murray Shortt Award was first established and awarded by the Santa Rosa Junior Hockey Club for the 1993 – 1994 season. This award is given to the player who is judged by all of the club’s coaches, to best demonstrate sportsmanship in their approach to hockey. The award was funded by the family of Murray Shortt in memory of his contributions to junior hockey and the youth of Sonoma County. Murray Shortt -- “Mr. Hockey” -- was a highly successful coach of youth hockey for over 35 years in California and Michigan. Since the beginning of hockey in Santa Rosa, Murray worked with youth hockey players as coach and President of SRJHC.
