Mite Activities over MLK Weekend

The Mite program participated in multiple events over the MLK weekend.  A small but proud group of Mites battled the "A" level Mites in SF at the Yerba Buena jamboree.  They played 6 games in one morning, and managed it without a goalie.  Talking with coach Garth the overall experience was fantastic and most importantly the kids had fun.  They got to compete against the highest level of Mites in Norcal and they got an opportunity to meet new kids.  It was a great experience.

Two other Mite teams visited snowy Lake Tahoe for a competitive Mite tournament (yes they keep score in this one).  The Flyers were well represented.  The SR2 team played with a ton of heart.  Although losing the 4 games, coach Ben said they improved every game and battled down to the very last shift.   Keenan said he scored 3 or 4 goals in the last game, too many to keep count.  And Daniel Wagner was stellar in goal, even with the adult sized nets.

The SR1 team played the underdog.  Backing into the championship, they were up against the Oakland bears who beat them 9-6 the day before.  The championship game was a real barn burner.  After going up 3-0 early and after goal called off, the Flyers held off the Bears with smothering defense to win 4-3 and take home the banner.

It was a a great weekend for Mite hockey in Santa Rosa.  Thanks to all the parents, kids and coaches for your hard work.
